Elaine St. George
Elaine St. George specializes in reinventing the classics of pop. It's just that her definition of "pop" is a little broader than most people's. From Gershwin and Cole Porter -- who wrote the popular music of the 1930s -- to Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan and a host of newer songwriters. As a "Jersey Girl," St. George has always had a soft spot for Springsteen. But when she was a teenager, she says, "I was all about the movie musicals of the 1930s, so those were the first songs I turned to when I started singing. Still, I've always wanted to sing the songs I grew up with - Dylan, Carole King and, yes, 'Broooce.' Now my band and I are putting our own spin on these great songs in our concerts. I'm having a ton of fun - and so are my audiences." Backed by some of the best jazz musicians in the business, St. George combines consummate musicality with an ability to get right to the heart of a lyric, producing a unique emotional experience for her audience.
